Il
Fontego features two spacious, air-conditioned sale are open year-round,
along with a charming, flowered courtyard when weather permits.
They host both locals (Veneziani D.O.C.), as well as those travelers
who love to mix in with them, thereby discovering a bit of authentic
Venezianità. It goes without
saying that in our kitchen, there’s only one padrone: the
nearby, richly-stocked Mercato di Rialto, where every morning we
select form quello che di meglio c’è: the very best
offerings of the day.
The able and expert hands of chef Massimo,
assisted by his young sous Davide, have a remarkable way of imparting
exuberance into our menu, which is based always on fish; yet they
would never fail to include equally delectable fare of meat or vegetables
for good measure. Fresh pasta and desserts are fatti in casa (home
made) each day, naturalmente. The imaginitive proposals for raw
fish, however, are created and assembled on the spot only by Patron
Lolo, “the fishmonger in love with the restaurant business,”
as he calls himself.
Our wine list, assembled with the expert
assistance of partner Paolo Lazzari of Vini da Gigio, is designed
to compliment our menu “terrior” with that of our Tre
Venezie -- Veneto, Trentino Alto Adige, and Friuli Venezia Giulia
– from where all our wine proposals originate.
